Dympna Byrne lives a simple life with her family on the Connemara coast She adores her father Miche l, and does her best to help her family by working hard and expecting little But beneath the surface there are hidden secrets Dympna s mother idolises her clever eldest son, yet her attitude to Dympna is puzzling So when her family find themselves in desperate need of money, it is Dympna who crosses the water to Liverpool to seek a better life Immersed in the bustling streets of Liverpool, Dympna s circumstances begin to improve But it is a chance encounter with orphaned, half starved Jimmy Ruddock that sets her on an extraordinary path she never could have predicted What a lovely story it was like reading to books at the same time but only one real story, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I love the way of the Irish It as made me won t to go to Ireland all the. Very well written, a really good story line the only thing that was a little annoying was the ending, it s a shame Katie couldn t do a second book on from this as you would like to know what happened after they were reunited. I ve probably read too many books like this so can realise the ending but the tribulations the trauma to get there takes you on a good journey and so like the time it is set in Would recommend. I felt it was a little slow to start hence 4 stars but built up until I could not wait to get to the end Although I felt I knew what the ending would be, there was so many twists and turns Very good book A pleasant read about a close community all connected via the fishing community A read I would recommendrecommend have with your coffee break. No sili must say that I w.Found the reading slow to start, really had to carry on reading but found it hard going.but found that I enjoyed the story further into the book lovely endong. I m almost half way through this book and I will continue with it However, I have to say I m finding it hard going, not because of the story, but due to the many mistakes, I have to go back and re read parts of it Who proof reads this I m not even looking for errors so I probably don t pick up on every one It is a pity, as the story and the characters make it a good read.
