I bought the Kindle edition of this latest Wilbur Smith , anticipating a good read as it has some good reviews and is a No.1 Best Seller Life is full of disappointment and this book only confirms that.I managed to get through about 50% of the book before giving up Mills and Boon books are Booker Prize winners in comparison to this tedious, disjointed and poorly written novel It does not hold a candle to the other Courtney novels This story is sold as being co written I suspect that the only contribution made by Wilbur Smith was his name.Perhaps it is time for Mr Smith to put away his pen and preserve his reputation as a good story teller, intact after all, I am sure that he does not need the money.

Courtneys war by Wilbur Smith reads like a modern day Hollywood movie.Super women with the looks of a fashion model thrashing men at every turn.Gay man running the secret service, Probably chemically castrated after the war.The African tribe were completely romanticised , lots of hocus pocus.Local tribal lad thrashes three settlers in a race.Read the book through, just could not believe I managed it.This is why I ve stopped watching Hollywood films and it s why Wilber smith is now off mylist of Authors

Like many of the other reviewers Ive been a fan of Wilbur Smith for years, having read the first ones back in the sixties, old fart that I am This title, and the preceding one, War Cry, do not stand well against his classic stories They re the equivalent of remaking a classic film as a TV mini series for daytime showing A lot of his other stuff is gritty and detailed, and immerses you in the moment These are much superficial and disposable A lot of his work is re readable, these won t be.however.I obviously read Courtneys War after War Cry, and could have written this review then I will read the obvious sequel, but not sure why What they have done is encourage me to start from the beginning and revisit where the Courtney dynasty comes from, and those books are epic.

Some of the recent work hasn t had the same magic for me, especially some of the joint authors efforts This was a good read though and getting close to the old gripping and emotional story telling All the interesting set against the WW2 background and the allied invasion of Germany leading to the discovery of the death camps.Great read Still not as good as The Burning Shore era books but nearly

I really enjoyed this book It was fairly inevitable from Wilbur Smith because I ve read most of what he has ever written The story has some nice characters especially the lead and has good pace Set in the Second World War it tells the exciting tale of a female British spy who is given a number of missions but is essentially keen to track down her German boyfriend I don t like films, documentaries or books about the Second World War so for me to read and like this is quite a surprise If you like Wilbur s stories then you are likely to like this one.
