What stood out for me is the lovely supportive relationship Cory and his wife have It s super important to have the ones you love be positive and allow the space for their partner to grow, fall, stand up and grow some .The fact that it took Cory years, circulating between a yearn to run, failing, quitting, then yearning again before he developed his mojo around running eventually ultra running, is an awesome feat of persistence What stood out for me was his wife never put him down, nor did she discourage him to give up, tease him about his previous unsuccessful attempts. This book was an enjoyable read.

This book is a collection of relatively short vignettes about the author s life and experience with long distance running There are 29 chapters and each one kind of stands alone as a separate story Some of these chapters are poignant and powerful accounts of love and loss But most of the chapters are just race diaries filled with humorous quips It is entertaining, but in the end, it s mostly empty calories, kind of like the author s diet. When I purchased the book, I failed to notice that it is self published And that s where the books flaws arise The book needed a professional copy editor to catch all the spelling mistakes and poorly constructed sentences The author has the potential to be the Dave Barry of ultrarunning stories, but the writing needs some polishing.

One of the best books I have read in years Cory manages to weave the reader into his life story with highly personable and down to earth manner None of the you can do this too BS, yet after reading this book it is highly impossible for one not to feel inspired and motivated to take action Certainly got me back into running after 5 years hanging up my shoes A must read for those like me who don t have a competitive bone yet love running.
