Second instalment in the Out of Uniform series of military romances This one stars Apollo, a widowed single dad to twin girls and Dylan, his friend Dustin s younger brother who comes around to look after the girls for the summer Apollo remembers Dylan as a gangly teenager and is shocked to notice the young man in front of him is nothing like it Dylan on the other hand had a crush on Apollo all through his teen years and finds it hard to shake even now.It s not all smooth sailing, far from it Apollo is not over the death of his husband or ready to move on and Dylan, well Dylan would like to be than just a casual hookup It takes time and an actual breakup in the form of Dylan getting a new job and moving out before Apollo is ready to admit that he really wants everything with Dylan.I enjoyed this very much, especially Apollo s struggles with grief were very well handled and the love story was gentle yet passionate excellent work as always. I liked Dylan, the second main character,he is always hopeful and honest He is well matched to Apollo, who is fighting his heart, over his head.my only moan is the thought paragraphs, drive me crazy with them.i felt like shouting just say them But this wouldn t create the angst, now would it.on to the next one in the series. I m so glad Apollo got his head out of his backside because, for a lot of this book he was infuriating At the same time though, I absolutely understood his fears and why he was behaving as he was.I loved how his late husband Neal was there as a presence throughout the story but never took over the narrative We learned enough to understand Apollo s awful loss but he didn t become some unreachable saint.Dylan put up with a lot He was steadfast and true and I absolutely believed he would wait for Apollo to come to his senses until the end of his days but, again, he never came across as a martyr He knew he loved Apollo and he had faith that love was returned. The epilogue was all ends up awesome The steam levels were high when they occurred but not too many to take over the story and I loved that Apollo, in spite of his military background, had no hang ups over his sexuality. The twins were well integrated into the story, cute without being twee or taking over The world building is excellent as I d expect from Annabeth, and I can t wait to get Ben and Maddox s story next. The first in this series I liked, as there appeared to be equality between the two leads however this one, didn t work for this reader One of the big reasons was that Apollo what is it with daft names should have hired a house keeper To be honest, that s what I felt Dylan was Hired to be useful with a helping of Dylan s fantasy from his teen years adding in the sex. Also another book with a big age gap though Apollo seemed to think at 34 he was ancient , plus the widowed theme and how Apollo behaved all seemed a bit cliched It s a shame as with a few tweaks, would have quite liked this Not sure if the third in the series will be purchased as a result. Really enjoyed the read All the characters fit together well And really enjoyed the story line On to book three. So glad that Ben and Maddox got together this is a very good read the rest of the characters have very good stories as well worth the read Lieutenant Apollo Floros can ace tactical training missions, but being a single dad to his twin daughters is than he can handle He needs live in help, and he s lucky a friend s younger brother needs a place to stay He s surprised to see Dylan all grown up, with a college degreeand a college athlete s body Apollo s widowed heart may still be broken, but Dylan has his blood heating up It s been eight years since the teenage Dylan followed Apollo around like a lovesick puppy, and it s time he showed Lieutenant Hard to Please that he s all man now an adult who s fully capable of choosing responsibility over lust He can handle Apollo s muscular sex appeal, but Apollo the caring father Dylan can t afford to fall for that guy He s determined to hold out for someone who s able to love him back, not someone who sees him only as a kid brother Apollo is shocked by the intensity of his attraction to Dylan Maybe some no strings summer fun will bring this former SEAL back to life But the combination of scorching desire and warm affection is than he d expected, and the emotion between them scares him senseless No fling lasts forever, and Apollo will need to decide what s important his past or his future if he wants to keep Dylan in his life Book two of the Out of Uniform series If you like your m m romance to be hot and emotional, you ll love this A powerful story about how we view our past, present and future I couldn t put this down
