Not much could drag Jim Booker out of a peaceful, if lonely, retirement and back to late nights, crime scenes, and chases Jim Booker is done with detective work and would just like to enjoy a cup of coffee on a sunny day But when an old friend shows up with a case about an old flame, Booker can t say no What starts as a missing persons case soon delivers than he bargained for, and when Booker s own past offers clues, it s clear that no one else can solve this mystery But there s a catch Booker was given six months to live eight months ago JR Rain shows us that when it seems there s nothing left to live for, there s also nothing left to lose His characters will take a chance on danger, doubt, even an unlikely romance as long as they get a cup of coffee first I ve read this book in two sessions, I couldn t put it down This is a beautiful example of the best and worst in people we know, a truly shocking and tragic tale but inspiring and emotional This is real craftwork by a very talented author A book I will not forget in a hurry. A tick box exercise Cynical and repetitive All the tropes of a thriller, cut out characters torn out of a predictable cast list, thrown in a bag and inexpertly pasted together A bit of an insult to a reader who is familiar with the genre A cold Rain This seems to pander to outdated attitudes and does nothing for enlightened acceptance Welded in a repressive 20th century mind set yet trying to appear with itDo not waste a moment reading it I am already trying hard to forget it A waste of time at any price. Please tell the author to STOP. You want a miracle to stop the main character dying He is trying to solve the murder of his first love before Cancer takes its toll on his body and ultimately his life There are several sub texts to the story I can t say I enjoyed it as it was very sad virtually the whole way through I usually enjoy JRRain s books this one was hard to read but a good story.
