I had already read this and wanted my own copy so that the rest of my family would have time to read it too My pre teen son is reading it now. I bought this book by mistake I obviously clicked on the wrong link from a seller of used copies thought I was buying a Ken Follett It was very reasonably priced however and in new condition so not worth returning As I can usually read almost anything I thought I would give it a go.Checked out the synopsis imagine you are being pulled into the hereafter whilst still alive and had a little heart sink when I discovered it was written by a former American Pastor and founder of Eternal Perspective Ministries in Oregon However, being open minded I thought I would read it anyway The writing style is terrible Descriptions of people being dragged into another portal a sinner obviously and others screaming, with melting flesh and pus and blood dripping written as a ghoulish schoolboy or schoolgirl would Presumably to demonstrate the evil within Pilgrims Progress is aint Really have to check out the reviews, which I neglected to do this time, because I thought I knew what I was buying, but most of the glowing reviews are not verified However they do give an insight into the target readership Reads like a tub thumping preachers sermon at times, but has moments of unintentional humour Descriptions are really laboured and silly The air was raw it felt like a power outage at a North Dakota morgue in January My body felt like a freezer bag, my internal organs frozen artichokes, cauliflower and peas After endless suffering the hero maintains his Gary Cooper High Noon image and pushes on, like a good marine Priceless Lots of the same I was going to donate it to a charity shop but I will keep it to dip into when I need a chuckle. Nick Seagrave is a disillusioned business executive who has lost loved ones to tragedy and his family to neglect Now, at a point of great crisis, he finds himself inexplicably transported to what appears to be another world Suddenly, he s confronted with profoundly clear views of his own past and personality And he s enabled to see, hear, taste, and smell the realities of both heaven and hell realities that force him to face dangers and trials far greater than any he s known before Pitted against flying beasts, a monstrous web that threatens to hold him captive, an evil brooding intelligence, and undeniable evidence of a spiritual world, Nick must finally come to grips with the God he claims not to believe in Walking between two worlds where every choice he makes casts a vote for heaven or hell Nick Seagrave prepares to make decisions that will change his life forever, as he stands on the Edge of Eternity This is NOT the English Ken Follet edge of eternity Thanks very much Just what I expected and a good price too, David. I found it wonderfully imaginative but with many truths that made me stop and think very hard about my life and what I truly live for An amalgamation of types of books like A Pilgrims progress, the Narnia books and Dante s visionary writings I enjoyed this book immensely. This is an updated version of The Pilgrim s Progress, written in modern American english It is full of vivid descriptions of the Christian life and of spiritual warfare. The author uses his imagination to the full, but as far as I can see everything he says can be related back to a Biblical foundation The description of the Chasm and of the Woodman s sacrifice are particularly impressive if you want to introduce someone to the basic principles of salvation and judgement without heavy theology, this is a good, easy to read starting point. This is the best Christian fictional book I have read that challenges my obedience to God and encourages me in my faith I highly recommend it It is a cut above all other Christian fiction that I have read Yhe truth it brings out will meet you where you re at. was a gift I was gripped by the story throughout Great use of a fiction book to illustrate biblical principles A modern day pilgrims progress type book A great read
